Nurses Clinics

Our Qualified Veterinary Nurses help by organising a range of clinics:

Puppy or Kitten Checks

Your new puppy or kitten will receive a health check and we will advise you on all aspects of pet care, including worming, flea treamtent, house training and behaviour.  Your pet will receive a full health check by a vet at its first vaccination.

New Animal Checks

Getting a new animal is a very exciting time but can also be very daunting.  We will give your pet an examination and also advise you on settling it into your home, including discussing any behavioural issues that may arise.

Senior Pet Checks

When your pet reaches a certain age their needs change.  They can benefit from changes to diet, excercise or routine.  We can help to improve both your animal's quality and length of life by identifying and addressing any age related problems early.

Dental Checks

This is an examination of the whole of your pet's mouth.  We check for gum problems such as inflammation, and issues with the teeth such as damage, plaque and tartar.  We can also pick up other oral problems quickly and refer you to a vet.

Weight Checks

These begin with an initial consultation which determines the future plan for your pet and monitoring their weight.  Follow-up checks may be weekly, fortnightly, monthly or longer as appropriate.  We will support you as you help your pet reach and maintain its target weight.

Post Operative Checks

After your pet has had an operation they have a check-up two and ten days post-operatively.  In these checks we assess your pet's recovery from the anaesthetic, and examine any wounds.

Dressing Changes

Some wounds require dressing.  We will check dressings to ensure there are no problems and will also check the wound and change the dressings.  A vet will examine your pet as required.

Removal of Sutures

If your pet has had an operation, they may have had skin sutures or staples which need to be removed after about ten days.  We also do a final wound check at this time.

Microchipping

A microchip is the size of a grain of rice and carries its own personal number that is entered into a national database.  The chip is implanted under the skin between the shoulder blades.  If your animal goes missing it can then be identified by any vets, the police and animal wardens in the UK and across Europe.  Chipping allows the pet to be identified and the owner to be contacted.  It also means that in the unfortunate event of an accident, treament above and beyond emergency care can be instigated earlier.

Nail Clips

This involves a general health check of your pet as well as clipping any overgrown nails.  We will also give you advice on nail clipping and how to increase the rate of nail wear.

Nurse clinics are a professional service offered by the practice.  They are carried out by our team of Qualified Veterinary Nurses, who are assisted by Trainee Veterinary Nurses.  We will be happy to see any of your pets, whatever shape, size or species!  Although our advice service is free, there may be a charge if any procedures are carried out or if any issues arise during your consultation that need to be referred to a vet.

Please contact your nearest Surgery to make an appointment with one of our nurses.
